MR. BUSH DEMANDS
GLOBAL DEMOCRACY?

In his 2005 inaugural address, President Bush declared:

"It is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world."

WOW! Since when has this been a policy of any U.S. leader toward any nation anywhere on the globe?

Certainly not in the Pacific in 1898 during the contrived war with Spain, when our leaders had U.S. troops invade the Philippine Islands upon the pretense of freeing them from Spanish rule, but then, despite the insistence of the Filipinos that they didn't want to be a protectorate of the U.S. anymore than they had wanted to remain slaves to Spain, U.S. rulers immediately declared the islands a protectorate.

The armed resistance that followed lasted until 1902 and resulted in the unnecessary deaths of more than 50,000 Filipinos and nearly 4,000 American boys: many times more than lost during the swift war with Spain.

Certainly not in Europe in 1917 at the end of WWI when the Russian people cast out the Tsar in the hopes of establishing a government more beneficial to the people. Capitalists of the West, fearing any form of popular government that threatened their monopolistic, wasteful control of Earth's wealth, declared Russia an enemy country. From that moment to the eventual collapse of the Russian economy, western nations withheld all forms of normal trade and exchange with Russia, stunting the country's economic and financial growth. To this day the U.S. war against communism, socialism, and democracy is nothing more than a war against people seeking a social system that holds the promise of a better and fairer life than offered by capitalism.

Nor in 1947 when America's leaders sent American troops into Greece to aid British forces fighting ELAS, the Greek Liberation Army. Why were these Western allies fighting and killing tens of thousands of this group that had played such a big part in driving the Nazis out of Greece? Perhaps, it was because the U.S. and English leaders feared the popularity of ELAS and its political arm, EAM, which had been created and maintained primarily by the Greek Communist party.

It was feared that should EAM win elections, it would form a popular "peoples" government and show favoritism toward Russia. The western leaders, however, preferred the friendly prewar Greek elitist government, although it was oppressive toward its own people. The American media cooperated with official policy by labeling members of ELAS as "terrorists" and members of the prewar government as "patriots," although many were ex-Nazis or collaborators.

Certainly not in Latin America in 1961 when a U.S. supported coup overthrew the constitutionally elected Brazilian government of Joao Goulart.

Why the coup? Goulart had insisted upon remaining neutral in the "Cold War" between the U.S. and Russia, and because some of his cabinet leaned toward socialism or communism, and were anti-American. In addition, his administration had limited the amount of money foreign corporations (American) could take from the country, and had nationalized a subsidiary of ITT.

Nor in 1961 when the U.S., shaken by Marxist candidate Salvador Allende's near win in Chile's 1958 presidential election, activated a covert program to assure Allende's failure in future elections.

A U.S. Senate investigative committee revealed the CIA had funded more than half of an opposition party's campaign, and had initiated a massive anti-communist scare program aimed primarily at Chilean women who, being traditionally more religious than men, were more prone to being frightened by CIA messages of godless communism. The propaganda campaign saturated the country with dozens of radio spots daily, news commentaries, newspaper articles, and in some instances the Agency created its own publications to spread its poison.

It also funded the services of a Jesuit priest, who established a network of social organizations to support Allende's opponent and spread the fear of a communist takeover of Chile. Allende lost the election. During the program of economic destabilization, the CIA had been funding, training, and instigating the Chilian military to revolt and takeover the government and, in September 1973, it successfully executed a coup.

What was Allende's crime? As other popular leaders before him, he was guilty of trying to help the poor of his country escape abject poverty and limit Chile's dependence upon the U.S. and other western countries.

Nor in 1964 when rulers of the U.S. initiated a subversive CIA financed program to oust the populist government of Equador headed by Jose Maria Velasco Ibarra. The program included creating phony "leftist" organizations and unions to mislead and confuse the Peruvian workers, bribing officials at all levels of government, starting riots, and bombing churches and right-wing organizations making everything look as if leftists were responsible.

Ibarra's crime? He had refused to jail members of the country's Communist Party or break relationships with Cuba.

Nor in 1965 when U.S. rulers sent CIA forces, aided by Green Beret troops, to Peru where the Americans built a fortress in the middle of the Peruvian jungle, brought in helicopters, combat equipment and weapons, and trained the Peruvian police and army to fight the annoying peasant rebel forces. The small groups of poorly armed, rag-tag peasants were quickly defeated. Their crime: they had dared to demand social and economic improvements from the oligarchic government.

These are just a handful of the dozens of countries in which the U.S. has interfered to prevent populist government from seeing the light of day, interference that has caused the deaths of millions of innocent people.

Considering the historical record of U.S. rulers interfering with countries that have tried to bring democratic government to their people, why should we believe Bush's claim about Iraq?

Unfortunately, in the glitzy, illusory world created by a fawning media industry, it is impossible for millions of Americans, ignorant of the republic's full uncensored history, to understand that the men controlling our republic are using—and have used—the republic's great natural resources, and the bodies of young Americans, to bully and steal the resources of smaller nations. Underneath their civilized veneer the men who control the U.S. republic are callously indifferent to human rights, and contemptuous of the intelligence of ordinary working Americans.

Today, the U.S. possesses the most destructive, fearsome war machine the planet has ever seen, which it uses to obliterate any opposition. Cowardly congressmen have recently approved another $81-billion for the military, above and beyond its regular allotment. This, while they reduce and delete social programs for lack of money.

The enemy of all people is unregulated wealth and power. Due to the lackadaisical attitude of millions of Americans in the United States, toward politics, some men and corporations, who have been allowed to accumulate enormous wealth and great power, now threaten your freedom and security.

If you wish to leave your children and grandchildren a better republic in which to live, you must change the American political system from one in which few groups can accumulate such power, to one that diffuses the power of government by placing it into the hands of all citizens, so that all may benefit from the nation's enormous resources. The only possible way to accomplish this is to change the U.S. from a representative to a Direct Democracy.

Realistically, such a change would be nothing more than the next logical step in humanity's evolution toward maturity and true civilization.
